Alberto Cortés (Málaga, 1983) is a theatre director, playwright, and performer. He holds a degree in Stage Direction and Playwriting from the ESAD of Málaga, as well as a degree in Art History from the University of Málaga (UMA). In 2009, he began his career as a director, developing a highly personal dramaturgical language that has continued to evolve over time through encounters with a range of artists who have shaped his trajectory. These collaborations have given rise to works of varying formats and disciplines, all driven by a desire to keep believing in the intangible, the spiritual, and the human. Over the years, his practice has unfolded through theatre, dance, performance, as well as popular traditions and flamenco.
Alberto's texts are published in Spanish by Continta Me Tienes: most recently Libro de las devociones, which gathers Querido Padre, El corazón de Ester, Los chicos de la playa Adoro; Los montes son tuyos (2022), with the texts of El ardor and One night at the golden bar; and Siempre vengo de noche (2024), which contains Analphabet and closes with a working diary in which the author creates another work, gathering his insecurities, contradictions and impressions about the theatrical event and about the craft of writing itself. In French, his texts are published by Les Solitaires Intempestifs under the title Les Diaboliques Parlures (L'Ardeur, One night at the golden bar, Analphabet). In Italian under the title Le diaboliche parole (Luca Sossella Editore).
