Can you tell us about the ideas and inspirations behind this mix?

I selected the tracks for this mix just after returning home from a stay abroad. My mind was occupied with renewal and finding my way back into old routines. The emotions that accompanied this phase can be found in the mix. For the selection I also built around some forthcoming tracks I am in love with at the moment.

As far as you remember, what was your first song or band that you fell in love with when you were a kid or a teenager?

J-Lo – Jenny from the block – my babysitter made a cassette for my mom with Jennifer Lopez’ music and we used to play it on the stereo in the kitchen. I have strong memories dancing to this. Anyhow, no music could compete with Avril Lavigne’s first CD. I used to copy her style and had my whole room covered with her pictures.

Do you remember your first encounter with electronic music and can you elaborate on that?

Mostly music from the 90s, like Moloko, Da Hool, Cevin Fisher, Daft Punk and Modjo, that used to be played in the MTV, TMF and The Box (sort of the Dutch MTV) top 100 all the time.

Tell us about one of your best, worst, funniest or strangest DJ experiences.

One time Mata Hari and I had to play a 4-hour set in The Hague. We arrived with our record bags to play in the reception hall of a venue. By accident, the rented CDJs did not take USB and it turned out that one of the record players was not working. After an hour of struggling with the sound engineer to make things work, we decided to just start playing b2b with one record player. Eventually, we were able to borrow one other CDJ with USB drive for 2 hours. I played a lot of B-sides I wasn’t planning to play and we finished earlier than planned.

Our last featured artist Kim Leclerc would like to know, what kind of sounds have major impact on you (e.g. synthesizer, drum machine) and why do you think is it like that?

Drums and piano.
